A little introduction.

Hello songwriters! For those who don't know us, we are Io and Erini, a couple of creative, life-loving, adventure seeking musicians from Greece, who share a passion for music and it's impact not only on ourselves but the world around us. We have both been involved in music professionally for many years, performing around the world and meeting some incredible people along the way. Now, we are branching out to organising songwriting retreats in our beautiful homeland so we can bring people together and back in touch with themselves through the transformational power of songwriting, away from the chaos and pressures of everyday life.

The aim of this blog is to encourage, inspire and hopefully comfort songwriters around the world! We will be diving deep into the connection between the body and the mind and what that means for our creative outlet and the way we write songs.

Songwriting is a very personal journey and the reasons humans write songs vary from person to person. In my experience as a session bass player and music events organiser, most of the artists I have worked with and met through my events use songwriting as a means to process and express something that spoken words simply cannot, something that is found only if you read between the lines.

The mind-body gap in songwriting.

In the world of music, finding balance can be challenging. Being a songwriter often comes at the cost of ones physical and mental health. It's all part of the process I suppose, but what if we decided to focus on our wellbeing a little more? What would that mean for our creativity and the quality of our art? And how do we go about doing that?

Our Greek ancestors lived by a simple philosophy; A healthy mind in a health body, which is why gymnastics and music were the core of education back then. Although simple and at first glance pretty obvious, most of us have a hard time incooperating it in our daily lives. In this fast-paced world we live in it can be difficult to maintain and nourish this connection. We are constantly distracted by screens, responsibilities get the best of us and we are expected to be available on demand 24/7.

Working in music for almost a decade now, I have witnessed first hand the challenges that songwriters face. Sometimes these are physical like late nights and unhealthy eating habits such as exsessive drinkning or quick knock-up meals and sometimes they are mental (anxiety, depression, self-dought, perfectionism just to name a few).

Closing message.

So, in this blog we're taking it back to basics! Back when the pressure was off, when commercial success wasn't a concern, when all you needed was a pen, some paper, an instrument and something to write about. And we hope that through this blog you might feel a little less alone on your songwriting journey.

Keep an eye out for more to come as we navigate the songwriting process! In the meantime, make sure you subscribe to our mailing list so you can be the first to know about our upcoming retreats and special offers!

Keep feeling and keep creating!
